Tips To Fight Static!!

via

If you are like most of us, you're graced with the presence of STATIC every time you go inside/outside or remove/put on your coat in the winter.  Remember when you were five and you were so fascinated, watching your hair stand on end??  Isn't quite so intriguing now, is it??

Quick science lesson... This lovely trick occurs when hair becomes electrically charged in dry air.  Since Winter is drier, we experience more static electricity.  If you'd like a more in-depth science lesson (you little nerd, you!!) you can go HERE.

To keep hair static-free, think moisture.  Here are a few tips... I recommend trying one of them at a time, then pairing a couple until you find what works for you.

#1 - Switch to a Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner

I recommend using the hydrating version of the shampoo and conditioner you currently use.  The formula is probably more similar and you'll probably find that you like the smell, foaming factor, and all those other extras that are important to us girls  :)

Pureology Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner - $42.89 on Amazon.com

#2 - Rub an Anti-Frizz or Shine Serum Into Ends

After you're done styling your hair, rub a small amount of anti-frizz or shine serum between your hands and slide over the bottom half of your hair.  If you don't have oily hair and you're struggling with bad static, you can use whatever is left and lightly run your hands over the top half of your hair too.

Garnier Fructis Weightless Leave-In Anti-Frizz Serum - $7.79 on Amazon.com

 #3 - Use a Dryer Sheet!!

Run (don't rub) a dryer sheet lightly over your hair from top to bottom.  You can even put the dryer sheet in your coat pocket and run it over your hair when you begin to get static-y again.

Downy April Fresh Dryer Sheets - about $6 at Target

#4 - Switch to a Wooden Brush

I personally don't notice the difference, but certain types of hair benefit from using a brush with a wooden handle and thicker bristles instead of a plastic brush with little plastic bristles.  If you've tried everything else and it hasn't worked, you should give this option a try!!
